On 13th October 1974, 286 athletes ran in the first ever Berlin Marathon. Less than three hours later, 32-year old Günter Hallas had won the marathon. This year in 2014, Kenya’s Dennis Kimetto ran forty minutes faster than Günter and set a new world record.
